Application Modernization Consultants

Overview

Summary

Before comparing application modernization consultants, compare your application with the vendor's dates: Microsoft ends free support and patches for .NET 8 and .NET 9 on November 10, 2026.

Microsoft ends free support and patches for .NET 8 (LTS) and .NET 9 (STS) on November 10, 2026. .NET 10 (LTS) is supported until November 14, 2028. Angular major releases are typically supported for 24 months, as published in Angular's release policy. These dates are as published in November 2026.

Each tip below is something you can ask any consultant, with the answer from my own work for comparison.

Detailed Guidance

Tip 1: Ask which version you run and the date its support ends

For .NET the dates are above. For Angular, support is 12 months active and 12 months long-term, and long-term support covers only critical fixes and security patches.

Tip 2: Ask how the upgrade will be sequenced

Angular's guidance for updating across several major versions is to perform each update one major version at a time. Company A's app was five versions behind; I upgraded it to the current version while stabilizing it.

Tip 3: Ask for results with numbers

I spent a month fixing bugs and stabilizing the existing app, with no rewrite, and upgraded Angular to the current version. As the app stabilized, the owner let the other engineers go. Engineering cost fell from $48K to $8.7K a month, and ongoing maintenance and new features now cost under $4K a month.

Repairing the second version would have cost more than rebuilding it. I rebuilt the backend and frontend over 14 months and kept about a quarter of the existing code. Maintenance dropped below $8K a month, then to under $2K a month.
